The Apple dictionary defines graphic design as, "the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books."
Since you are enrolled in a graphic design (or related) program, what is your definition of graphic design? If you are nearing the end of your program, has your definition changed since you first started studying the subject?
I look forward to your responses!

I always thought of it as just working with type, creating layouts, and measuing a lot. This made the field seem very dull and tedious. Four quarters at Davis has changed my perspective. I never took into account how much color theory goes into a simple advertisment or how the choice of a font can change the message. During this time at Davis, I have learned that type and the image have a relationship and interplay. I have also learned that design is not static, it is evovling and changing every day.
Thirty years ago I went to work for a newspaper company, and learned how to set type on an A&M typesetter. That progressed to a full blown printing company, where I was responsible for ads, brochures, labels, etc. From very complex to the mundane letter head/business card job. Graphic design to me is designing 'graphics' i.e., pictures, words, colors, etc to appeal to the buyer or client for whom I was working.
